About Us

Applewood Bistro is a truly unique dining experience, located in the Yadkin River Valley and beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge and Brushy Mountains of northwestern North Carolina. Within walking distance of W. Kerr Scott Lake, Applewood is just three miles west of downtown Wilkesboro on NC highway 268. Although much of Applewood’s cuisine could be considered "fine dining", Applewood goes to great lengths to make anyone feel welcome, regardless of attire, or budget. Applewood refers to it as "upscale casual". Chef/Owners Alan and Angela Day wanted to create a warm, romantic environment, where diners feel comfortable and casual, yet still experience wonderful, innovative culinary creations found usually in more expensive, "stuffy" settings. Flowers and fresh herbs surround the exterior of the building and greet visitors as they enter. Upon walking in the front door, the first thing you will notice are the colors. The sunroom and entrance are a vivid sunny yellow, which feels warm, and inviting, a favorite spot among most diners, with regulars asking for a table there as they come in. A beautiful wrought iron gate, built for Alan by his brother, separates the entrance from the rest of the sunroom area. Upon entering the main dining room, you find yourself enveloped in the colors of grapes, green and a deep purple that somehow work very well together. Wood flooring and ceilings, soft lighting, minimalist pictures on the walls set the mood, and a large stone fireplace takes center stage.

Alan’s business philosophy with his staff, "exceed expectations, whatever it takes", each time someone visits. Applewood offers a unique menu featuring Mediterranean, French, American Low Country, Cajun, Pacific Rim, and Asian influences. Applewood’s daily specials are where they stand out in bringing the freshest selections of seafood, wild game, and exceptional flavor combinations and wine pairings to their patrons. Applewood Bistro is proud to support local growers and purveyors of fine quality produce and goods. The freshest ingredients, artisan breads, organic and free-range products are used whenever possible.
